Apple’s tablet market grows despite decline in overall tablet market sales

According to a report published by IDC, overall tablet market is on a decline worldwide. However same is not the case for Apple. For Apple, its shipments grew from 42.6 million to 43.8 million, giving it a leading 27 percent market share, up from 24 percent a year previous.

On the contrary, for other companies overall tablet shipments fell by 6.5 percent to 163.5 million units last year. That’s down from 174.9 million in 2016.

Samsung (second) and Lenovo (joint fourth) also saw their sales drop. However Amazon (third) and Lenovo (also fourth) did manage to register slight gains.

However IDC did note that the shipments fell for traditional ‘slate’ tablets, but ‘detachable’ tablet shipments were up 1.2 percent year-on-year. So all in all detachables grew 10 percent to reach 6.5 million shipments.

Overall IDC’s report clearly showed that Apple indeed dominated the tablet market as ” others” accounted only for 34 percent of the market.
