As Russian athletes were banned from the Pyeongchang Winter Games to represent Russia on allegations of systematic doping, athletes from the country participated on a neutral status.
Commenting on their athlete’s performance a Russian official said that proudly flying the Russian flag at the conclusion of the Pyeongchang Winter Games will be worth more than winning medals as neutral athletes.
“We don’t have the issue of fighting for the first place as a team,” said Stanislav Pozdnyakov, chief of mission for the “Olympic Athletes of Russia” contingent.
Currently athletes from the country sit at 19th in the medals table with three silver and seven bronze medals
