Sky News Arabia has reported its second senior appointment in some days with Angelos Frangopoulos poised to become a member as CEO and managing editor.
In his recent role, Frangopoulos will be responsible for the firms global programming operations for all its broadcast, digital and radio platforms. Sky News Arabia, a 24 hour Arabic language news channel based in Abu Dhabi, is a joint venture in middle of Sky and ADMIC.
Sky News Arabia is broadcast to 50 million households and hires more than 500 staff across the Middle East, London and Washington.
Frangopoulos, who will become a member in the firm later this year, was earlier CEO and managing editor of Australian News Channel (ANC).
Under his leadership, ANC has seen dramatic developed growth from an individual channel in 2000 into a 11 channel organisation and is the main provider of 24-hour multi-channel, multi-platform news services in Australia operating Sky News Extra, Sky News Live, Sky News Business, Sky News New Zealand, Sky News Weather, SkyNews.com.au, FOX SPORTS News and the Australia Channel OTT service for international markets.
His move follows the appointment of recent head of news, Hani Abu Ayyash who will handle all content generation on Sky News Arabia’s TV, website and social media platforms, also Sky News radio telecast through internet and shortwave.
Frangopoulos told, “I’m very much looking forward to working with the joint venture partners to grow the company’s journalism and business activities across the region and internationally.”
He added, “Digital innovation is critical to the global growth of any media business, especially so in a region where younger and highly technologically literate audiences are the key demographic.”
Previous to joining ANC, Frangopoulos held places at Nine Network Australia and following at Sky News in London. He started his journalism career at Prime Television Orange and Canberra.
