A new job listing by Spotify suggests that the company might be taking a first step in manufacturing its own hardware. Up until now, Spotify has partnered with other hardware companies via its Spotify Connect platform.
The Guardian recently noted that Spotify is looking for an ops manager for “hardware product,” via a job listing. The job description clearly mentions, “Spotify is on its way to creating its first physical products.” However no further details were mentioned as to what the product will be.
The Spotify connect allowed anyone building a connected speaker, mobile device or piece of AV equipment to turn their gadget into a Spotify speaker. But if Spotify is entering into the world of hardware manufacturing, speculations are it is likely to be some sort of smart, connected speakers of some kind.
However since Spotify has not let out any further details, people may only speculate. It would however be interesting to see what future will hold for Spotify hardware and how it would affect the company’s existing partnerships.
